Italian Design & Quality By DeLonghi
DeLonghi (De’ Longhi) is an Italian company that manufactures products built on quality and design. Espresso enthusiasts know Delonghi espresso (based in Italy) for their super automatic espresso machines but they carry a full line of household appliances such as portable heaters, air conditioners, deep fryers, commercial refridgeration, irons and more.
Their history dates back to 1902 in Treviso, Italy but DeLonghi did not incorporate until the 1950s. DeLonghi began manufacturing portable heaters in 1970 but they started off as an industrial parts supplier. They began distributing heaters within the United States in 1980 with a subsidiary created in the US in 1988. Their success starting with their oil filled home portable electric radiator allowed DeLonghi to develop a full line of heating product offerings including fan heaters, gas-fired, kerosene heaters that were oil filled. Delonghi, through their research, developed the Plus Heat Multi System which used a combination of oil, electric and fan based heating.
During a 10 year span DeLonghi acquired several companies which allowed them to expand even faster than ever into additional product offerings. 1986 marked their acquisition of Elba which manufactured free-standing ovens, stove tops and built-in ovens. That same year they acquired Radel which gave them insight into developing central heating systems based on of water-circulating heating. Seeking innovation on the opposite spectrum, in 1987 they acquired a company with strong air conditioning expertise: Ariagel. In 1989 Delonghi made yet another acquisition and this time it was for the Vetrella company which allowed Delonghi to expand into the vacuum clean and floor care market.
Starting from 1980 Delonghi began its expansion into international markets. Subsidiaries were established in the US, UK, France, Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Russia, China, Belgium and Canada, etc. By the year 2000 Delonghi had 13 manufacturing plants, subsidiaries in over 30 countries and their sales channel extended into over 75 countries.
1995 marked their acquisition of Simac Micromax. Yet again, it opened up new product lines to Delonghi allowing them to establish themselves in the ironing / iron and food preparation industry. Coffee machines were released the same year but what really marked Delonghi’s entry into the kitchen appliance market was the acquisition of Kenwood Appliances based in the United Kingdom. Kenwood Appliances, a well known global kitchen appliance brand strengthened Delonghi’s continued product development and current offerings.
Later Delonghi began it’s development of DeLonghi espresso machine product lines later gaining recognition as one of the top espresso machine manufacturers. Delonghi released their very first espresso machine that was fully automatic in 2007. Backed by strong customer support, Delonghi espresso machines emphasize award winning Italian design, competitive pricing, durability and most of all, authentic taste with each cup.
